Warren Chappell was born in Richmond, VA, 1904. He studied at the University Richmond receiving his Bachelor of Arts, Art Student's League, Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center and in Germany with Boardman Robinson and Rudolf Koch.

Chappell was the author of "The Anatomy of Lettering" 1935 and illustrated, "Tom Jones, The Tragedies of Shakespeare, The Complete Novels of Jane Austen," and more.
